Что такое МПС?
Межпарламентский союз (МПС) является всемирной организацией праламентов суверенных государств.
Он координирует всемирный парламентский диалог в деле обеспечения мира и сотрудничества между
народами и упрочения представительных институтов власти.
В этих целях он укрепляет контакты, координацию и обмен опытом между парламентами и
парламентариями всех стран; он рассматривает вопросы международного значения и выражает свою
точку зрения по этим вопросам с тем, чтобы обеспечить меры со стороны парламентов и парламентариев;
он вносит свой вклад в защиту и укрепление прав человека, которые универсальны по своим масштабам
и соблюдение которых является критически важным условием парламентской демократии и развития; и
способствует лучшему пониманию механизмов работы представительных институтов власти и
укреплению и развитию средств осуществления их деятельности.
МПС поддерживает усилия Организации Объединенных Наций, разделяя ее цели, и работает с ней в тесном
сотрудничестве. В этой связи МПС заключил соглашения о сотрудничестве с ООН и с некоторыми из ее
специализированных учреждений. Он также сотрудничает с региональными межпарламентскими
организациями, равно как и с международными межправительственными и неправительственными
организациями, разделяющими те же идеалы.
По состоянию на 11 октября 1999 г., членами МПС являлись парламенты 139 стран. Пять международных
парламентских ассамблей входят в него в качестве ассоциированных членов.

Объединенная Программа Организации Объединенных Наций по ВИЧ/СПИДу (ЮНЭЙДС) –
ведущий пропагандист глобальных мер борьбы с ВИЧ/СПИДом. Она объединяет семь учреждений ООН
в общем деле борьбы с эпидемией: Детский фонд Организации Объединенных Наций (ЮНИСЕФ),
Программу развития Организации Объединенных Наций (ПРООН), Фонд Организации Объединенных
Наций в области народонаселения (ЮНФПА), Программу Организации Объединенных Наций по
международному контролю над наркотиками (ЮНДКП), Организацию Объединенных Наций по
вопросам образования, науки и культуры (ЮНЕСКО), Всемирную Организацию Здравоохранения
(ВОЗ) и Всемирный банк.
ЮНЭЙДС координирует меры борьбы с эпидемией, предпринимаемые семью организациями-
соучредителями, а также дополняет их конкретными инициативами. Цель ЮНЭЙДС – возглавлять
и способствовать расширению международных ответных мер на ВИЧ/СПИД по всем
направлениям: медицина, общественное здравоохранение, социальная сфера, экономика, культура,
политика и права человека. ЮНЭЙДС работает с широким кругом партнёров – правительственными
и неправительственными организациями, представителями деловых и научных кругов и
общественностью – в деле повсеместного и не знающего границ распространения знаний, навыков и
передового опыта.
